Explore dozens of new varieties of annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs

Each year we trial plants from breeders with new characteristics such as color, growth habit, variety, etc. These are the latest and greatest ‘Must Haves’ in the plant world. We also make these available to you, our customers!

Be the first on your block to grow these beauties by visiting our greenhouse and selecting your favorites. Just look for the signs with the  “New!” burst to find them quickly.

Here are just a few of our top picks:

Annuals:

  1. Abutilon ‘Biltmore BallGown’ – a shrub sometimes referred to as “flowering maple” because of the shape of it’s leaves. Abutilon is ideal for container gardening as it continues to bloom all season.
  2. The annual agastache ‘Poquito Orange’ is a long blooming flower that can add lush color and texture to any sunny landscape. It is also known as ‘hummingbird mint’ as hummingbirds love it!
  3. ‘On Top’ tuberous begonias boast some of the most unique bi-color blooms around. Not only are they larger blooms than other tuberous begonias, the tolerate more heat and sun than others.
  4. ‘Candy Shop’ calibrachoas are absolutely delicious in container gardens or landscape borders.
  5. This new edition of an old-fashioned favorite, cosmos ‘Lemonade’ will be loved by butterflies and is great as a cut flower.
  6. Tubular blooms of red, orange, and red-yellow tip stems rising from the mounded bush known as Mexican Firebush. Hummingbirds flock to it giving it the nickname ‘hummingbird plant”.
  7. New petunias pop up every year. One of our favorites this year grows upright with cream-tipped ‘Blackberry Mojito’ flowers. Blooms are slightly smaller than other varieties but pack a huge punch!
  8. Smell the butter-flavored popcorn scent of the exotic blooms of our Popcorn plant. Love it!
  9. Summer was never so fun and dazzling as it will be with ‘Colorblast Double Guava’ and ‘Pink Lady’ portulaca. These plants love the heat!
  10. Fuchsia-colored flowers each with a black calyx on tough plants make ‘Rockin Fuchsia’ salvia from Proven Winners a real winner!

Shrubs/Trees:

  1. Fruit Trees – many different types including peach and pear
  2. ‘At Last’ rose from Proven Winners – one of the most fragrant roses we have ever had the pleasure to inhale!
  3. David Austin Roses – we now carry several varieties by this world renowned breeder including ‘Pilgrim’ (a climbing rose) and ‘Tranquility’ (a tree form)
  4. Three seasons of spectacular interest as well as edible berries all from one beautiful viburnum ‘Brandywine’ from Proven Winners. Could it get any better?

Perennials:

  1. Unbelievable describes this rugged yet fragrant daylily perfectly. Robust blooms, Black Walnut tolerant, and beloved by butterflies and hummingbirds alike. ‘Midnight Raider’ is a necessary addition to any full to part sun garden.
  2. The light and airy white edged with picotee pink blooms of ‘Rosy Jane’ guara float across mounding foliage. Another pollinator favorite from spring to fall.
  3. ‘Grape Gumball’ monarda (bee balm) from Walters Gardens offers a unique purple color to attract the pollinators that adore it.
