Meadow View offers a great selection of Hanging Baskets. Select your Hanging Baskets according to personal color choice, light requirements,(sun or shade) and form (trailing, bushy, size, etc.). After purchasing, keep your Hanging Baskets looking great throughout the summer by following these tips:
1) When watering, water thoroughly until water drips through drainage holes of container or through the moss liner. Water only when the plant requires it...the basket feels light, surface of soil looks dry, finger in soil to first knuckle is dry, and/or plants show signs of wilting (when the soil is not soaking wet). Remember, some plants require more water than others depending on location, variety of plant, temperatures, etc. The hotter the weather, the more mature the plant, the more water it will need. Don't rely on rain (even a downpour doesn't always provide what is needed). It is a good idea to check your basket everyday.
2) Hanging Baskets may be fertilized weekly using a water soluble fertilizer such as 'Peters' or 'Miracle Grow'. We recommend the use of a slow release fertilizer such as 'Osmocote' to provide constant nutrition throughout the growing season.
3) Remove spent blooms (deadhead) to promote continuous flowering and keep the plant neat and healthy. There are some varieties of plants which require very little of this maintenance. Most hanging baskets benefit from pruning to remove die-back, legginess and shape growth. A light prune in mid-July will rejuvenate the plant.
4) One of the most difficult conditions to control is the pH of the soil when alkaline water is used. For instance, water coming from wells in thisarea has a very high pH and alkalinity, which will elevate the pH in the soil to the point where the plant cannot take-up many of the trace elements (such as iron) essential to good growth and dark green foliage. If you suspect this problem contact us at Meadow View for ways to remedy this situation.
