Josiah,

I'll answer each question as best I can. Others know more than me, but I've had two pretty good years with my
vegetables and flowers.

how long does any normal seed last ?
Most advice is one year, yet if stored in a dry cool place, most vegetable seed will last several years. Even more
if packaged in nitrogen and sealed. Some say we loose about 10% germination per year.

what time of the year should you plant most Vegetables ?
Most vegetables are planted just after last frost. Where I live in South Florida, we plant in November when it is
cool. Late spring and summer are too hot for 80% of veggies.

and how much water does normal Vegetables need ?
This is THE question and the answer is "enough for them to flourish" ;) It depends on soil type and weather.
Hard clays need less, loose sandy soil need more. Young plants will tell you by wilting a bit when they get too
dry. Feel the soil, when it's dry to one inch deep, water until it's moist at two inches. When the weather is hot
and dry, water often and lots. Try to avoid frequent, small watering - it makes a shallow root system that's even
more prone to drought wilt. Water really well - less often.

A few folks have said, "Sam, you must have a green thumb!" I don't. I study garden books, read magazines,
ask questions, observe successful gardeners and most of all, I don't quit. I have a strong back and am willing to
spend a weekend digging a bed. Preparation is the key. Use compose and mulch to amend your soil as
needed. Get it tested at your County Extension office. "The best fertilizer for a garden is the footsteps of it's
owner" (unknown to me who said that) I check my plants at least every day and often more.
