: I would like to grow calla lilies in pots.
I've seen them planted close together in pots but all
the literature I've seen says they need a square foot
per plant. My question is could I plant 3 bulbs in
say a 15" pot or do I need to go bigger. Also do
I need to fertilize them and if so what should I use,
Miracle grow or just generic fertilizer. Also can I
plant colored with white varieties? Can they stand
full sun if watered often enough?
Thanks for your hellp.

Jay, I have about a dozen Calla's growing right now with five in bloom here in South Florida. I planted three into a 24 inch window box back the first week in Feb. Those are some of the blooming ones. I mixed Lesco timmed release (14-14-14) fertilizer into a rich potting soil. I also water well nearly everyday. They are in nearly full sun with a bit of mid-day shade. I also planted some into my bulb bed and they now have blooms about to open. I also planted three into a fifteen in pot about a month ago and they are about 10 inches high and seem to doing well. I expect they would be ok in full sun if they get PLENTY of water. Mine seem to like wet feet. I love these plants and will plant more soon. As far as I can tell, different colors do fine together as I have red, yellow and lavender very close together. -Sam
