It sounds like you're describing what Mama always called "fruit flies." Take a bottle of wine (I've used a narrow-necked fruit juice bottle) that's almost empty and leave it (uncorked, of course) where the problem is the worst. They'll fly in there, get trapped, and drown. The worse the problem, the more bottles you should use. Works very well!
