: Received a pot of flowering mums while in the hospital. They are just about finished blooming and I want to transfer them outdoors. O have three questions.
1. How far back should I cut the plant after it is finished blooming?
2. When would it be safe to transplant outdoors in Billings, MT.
3. Will mums survive our winters or must I leave them in the pot and bring them in?

MARJORIE: It is not likely that this plant will ever "please" you again. It is for the purpose of a "one time" experience. The varieties use for this purpose are not likely hardy.
You can cut it back anytime and not plant it outside until the danger of any frost is past. Doubtful if it will do well indoors as it requires a lot of light. Sorry, MVG Plant Dr.
