: I am seven years old and I really, really want to know how seedless fruit grows. I dont understand how they can make new trees if they dont have any seeds. My Mum and Dad don't know, please help me !

MARIA: Now you will smarter than your Mom and Dad, at least on this subject, here goes.
The seedless fruit is a hybrid created by cross pollenating to produce a plant that has no fruit or some other desirable "characteristic". Once you have one of these plants then in order to continue to have this very same "characteristic" it is necessary to reproduce the plant assexually. This is done by grafting or budding the plant onto common seedy plant rootstock. The grafted plant will have the identical "characteristics" as the parent because there was no new qualities introduced. Hundreds of thousands of plants are produced this way. The use of tissue culture has reduced the time to produce 1,000's of plants in a short period of time. MVG Plant Dr.
