for several years at different locations i have planted impateints in the winter months, as it is too hot for them in miami fl. for the first few days after they are planted snails attack by the hundreds and eat the stems off in the center. snail bait kills most of them but some get through, i dug out the beds and replaced the soil, i removed the other border plants thinking that the snail were living in them, my neighbors dont seem to have any trouble, I changed watering schedules, if the plant survives for the first week the snails leave them alone mostly. in thew summer i plant caladiums and nothing bothers them.
there has got to be an answer.
