We grew loofah sponges many years ago. They will turn yellow/brown when fully developed but the sponges harvested before that will be softer and nicer to use in the bath. When you pick them allow them to soak in water for a long time. I put mine in an old tub we used as a horse trough and left them in there for about a week. After that comes the hard job of peeling off the outer layer. This is time consuming but worth it. Then set them in the sun to dry and you are ready to go.
