: I am not a botanist. My fiance was given a Hydrangea this morning and all she was told was it needs sunlight but not direct sunlight. Can anyone explain this a little futher. I would like to plant it in our backyard. Can anyone offer any tips for successful planting. Thanks in advance!-Chris
CHRIS: It depends on the type of Hydrangea you have. If it is the type that is either pink or blue and if popular at Easter time as a pot plant it should be planted in full sun, use 1/3 organic matter mixed in with the existing soil. Canadian spagnum peat is a great source of organic matter or if you have access to some good home compost that will do fine as well. MVG Plant Dr.
