: I received some potted Tulipa Hybrida for Easter from my Children. Will I be able to plant them in my garden and when is a good time to do this and how? We live in southern MaineThank You for any help you can give me.

BARBARA: Your tulips should be enjoyed in the pot as long as they are attractive. Clip the blooms off after they are finished their thing and keep the soil moist while in the pot in a sunny area (or plant them in the ground) until the leaves turn brown signaling that the plant has replenished the food into the bulb for the next blooming period. If you want to wait and plant them this fall, early September, you can do that but allow the soil to dry out after the leaves turn brown. They should bloom well next spring. Use bonemeal at the recommended rate when planting. MVG Plant Dr.
You can either plant the bulbs into the ground
