: Do azeleas need shade, sun or what. Live in thebeach area w/Sandy soil and would like to have acorner w/different colored plants. The corner I want to use gets full morning sunand a good bit of afternoon sun. Thanks for the help.

NANCY: The problem is going to be the beach not the sun. The salty air and sand will cause you difficulty. If you decide to go ahead plant using 75% organic matter in the form of Canadian Spagnum peat moss by volume with soil (sand) from the hole you dig. The hole should be 3 times the diameter of the rootball. Water well at planting and as needed thereafter, do not overwater or let the plant become totally dry. This will be a toughy. MVG Plant Dr.
