: The roses in my garden have very red leaves. Many other plants have it too but to a lesser degree. Is this caused by some deficiency in the soil? I live in California in the Sierra foot hills at 2000 ft. where the soil is very poor, mostly decomposed granite.

ED: If this is new growth it is perfectly normal. If the plants are well leaved out and the red doesn't turn green then it is likely that there is some difficulty occurring. If this is the case better take some leaf samples to your local nurseryman or the county agent for examination and recommendation. MVG Plant Dr.
