In March, we cut down over 40 trees (mostly dead elm), ground down the stumps and tilled as best we could. Over that, I constructed frames for raised beds and brought in 4 yds. of topsoil and 2 1/2 yds. of compost. Weed fabric and wood chips cover the paths between the beds. To keep the garden from looking like a POW camp, I built a fence with 8' corner and gate posts, but 6' interim posts. I put in 4' welded wire fence (2" x 4" openings) around the perimeter which will stay year 'round. I plan to put temporary fencing above that during the growing season only.
Finally, here is my question-- For the "upper fence", should I use lightweight 48" plastic mesh or would it work to string clothesline wire through eyehooks at one foot intervals with bits of rag tied to them for visability?
