: can you propogate hollyhocks by cutting them down after they are done flowering and laying them on the ground? will they send out runners or do the seeds just fall out and then reseed wherever they fall?
thanks.
andrea
Hi Andrea,
Hollyhock stems are laid on the ground for reseeding (they don't send out runners). The seeds develop in the dried blooms, so if you'd like them in another location, just pinch some dried flower heads from them and scattered them where you'd like new plants. Be sure that the flower heads are fully dry and have developed mature seeds (if you open one, mature seeds will appear flat, dry, and dark. They have a circular shape, about 1/4" diameter.) -Kathy
