The research says you will have a stronger stem and roots on your tree if you do not stake it. Unless there is some reason to stake it, such as high winds, can't support itself, etc. you are better off with no stakes in the long run.

: Hi, I just planted a Crimson King tree, looks kind of like a Japanese maple. The tree is about 6ft tall and the trunk diameter is about 3/4". How do you recommend tying the tree to stakes? Should the stakes be ground level or above ground?
