Over the weekend I added small nandinas and more miniature azaleas around the maples. Between one of the maples and one of the oaks, I planted a very small camilia. It looks sorta funny there by itself, but it has the room to grow to as large as I want to let it. What do I need to know about pruning camilias? What about gardinias? Are they hard to grow? When do they bloom?

Originally I had a lot of perenials in the flowerbed. Unfortunately, I can't tell the difference in the early spring between weeds and perenials. That's one of the reasons for going to shrubs in certain areas.

Hydrangeas do great in this area. Sorta like the forsythia that I had to move. It could easily overwhelm everything else. The forsythia was transplanted the the corners of my fenced in back yard. The volunteers that were left got transplanted last month. They're real spindly now, but should be hearty by the end of the summer - if my dogs don't kill them.

Hey, another question. I have the offer of more iris bulbs. HOWEVER, there has been poison ivey in the bed where these are coming from. I've only had Poison Ivey twice - but it went systemic both times - down my legs, around my waist, up my arms, and on my face. Do I accept these? How do I keep the PI from rejoining my flower bed?
