: I recently discovered a yellow, sponge-like fungus growing in the dirt that I have my ficus tree potted in. Resembles some sort of sea urchin (for lack of a better description). Do you know what is causing this fungus to grow there? It seems to be spreading on top of the soil.

DON: Your sea urchin type fungus is probably a natually occurring fungi that is part of natures breakdown or organic matter. Scratch the surface of the soil and remove the "urchins", keep the soil on the dry side and mulch the top with pebbles if it reoccurs. MVG Plant Dr.
