: I have an old lilac bush that was destroyed last Friday, June 2, 2024 by a severe wind & thunderstorm. Over the weekend I cut the bush back all the way to the ground. I still have some small shoots coming up. My questions are: 1) Will the lilac bush come back? 2) If it does how should I care for the bush. (ie fertilizer, mulch etc..)
Thank you.
BILL: The lilac will come back with gusto as long as the root system is good and healthy. Only allow 6 or 8 good stems develop, remove the others. Not fertilizer and the mulch is optional. MVG Plant Dr.
