: You're not going to believe this. The fall before last,
I planted a small Yoshino cherry tree in my front yard
(full sun). In early spring, the leaves came, and then
turned dark brown, wilted, and the tree died. I took
it back to Home Depot, and they replaced it. I planted
it in the same spot, a month later it was also dead.
I took it back, and got a refund. I purchased a
Kwanzan cherry last fall, planted it in my side yard
(full sun). It was doing fine. Early this spring I
purchased another Yoshino, I think this time at Lowes,
and let it sit for a couple of weeks in the container
- it bloomed and was beautiful. I then planted it in a
new spot in my back yard, a month later it was dying.
I pulled it up, I have not yet returned it. I then
went to a nursery, purchased a $100 Yoshino
(it was very pretty), and planted it in a different
spot, actually not far from a Japanese Maple I recently
planted, which is doing just fine by the way. Last weekend
I went out of town, and we had a nor'easter
(I am in Chespeake, VA), with tons of rain. When I
returned, the leaves on my Kwanzan were drooping, and
three days later they were crunchy and dry. I assume
that it is dying. Now get this: today I come home
from work and notice that the leaves on my new Yoshino
are turning yellow - no drooping, but yellow for sure.
I have taken such care in planting every
one of these trees. I have planted a Willow Oak, River Birch
Sugar Maple, and Japanese Maple, and all are doing great.
Is there something I don't know about cherry trees?
It is obvious that I really want one, otherwise I would
have given up by now. Can anyone offer me any help?
I will be calling the nursery where I purchase the
Yoshino to see if they can help, but I don't anticipate
much since I asked them about these problems when I
bought it and they said to plant it just the same as my
other trees. HELP! I am desolate...
