I have a forest of trees in my back yard. The pine trees are around the perimeter of the yard. It was a little dark under the trees, so I thought I would trim the bottom and create a border of plants under them. This is my first home, so I started to experiment. I did not realize till after I trimmed the trees that the soil would be very acidict. I have tried to plant azealeas but they died. My question to you is, What kind of plants can I use that will live under the pines? Someone told me not to rake up all of the pine needles because it would kill the trees. So that tells me that I cannot put mulch down. I would have to use the pine needles as mulch. The width of the area that has nothing but pines needles, is about 7 feet wide. In front of that 7 feet are other tyes of trees.
Please help.
