Got a dogwood tree for a memorial gift and moving in october what can i do

I received a dogwood tree as a gift but am moving in October. It is in a pot now. What aremy options and if I plant it at a relatives house, how do I plant it and whenand how do I dig it up again totransplant it at my new house. thanks.
