: i am looking to cover a large bank with a groundcover that will take over and choke out existing vegetation. Will English ivy accomplish this? I need something relatively fast growing.

EDDIE: Figure on 2 years for most ground covers to be thick enough to crowd out most weeds. There are many choices, if you want flowers and a very natural look try Crown Vetch, if you want evergreen foliage the Ivy or Evergreen Winter Creeper could do the job. The Vetch is very low maintenance and can be seeded. The Ivy will require watering and will fill in slower, the Winter Creeper(Eunonymus f. Coloratus)will fill in faster and require less frequent watering during esablishment. MVG Plant Dr.
