From Pat: When should crepe myrtles be pruned? Any particular time of year and how should they be pruned to achieve maximum flowering?

Thanks!

: : I have crepe-myrtles about 4 feet tall. I want them to grow tall and straight with a thick trunk with an "umbrella" effect. How do I achieve that look? Thanks!

CHERYL: Simple, prune them that way...pick out your "trunk" and stake it up, nice and straight. If there isn't one you like cut the plant back severely and wait for a new stem to appear and train that one. MVG Plant Dr.
