: Hi. We have a question about gardenias. We know that you can graft
a cutting to a tree base to make a gardenia tree.
Could you please give us info on how to do this and what
type of tree to use as the base. Is it an apple tree?
Really appreciate your help
VAL: It would be much easier to start with a small plant and train up one of the stems to form the "trunk" of the tree, removing all the other stems. It will take about 2 growing seasons to do it this way and longer to graft a cutting onto an established plant, if you are even successful. The rootstock would have to be of the same family as gardenia, I doubt that apple is in this family. MVG Plant Dr.
