My neighbor pointed out a couple of small trees growing in the ditch line in front of her house. She said there was fruit on it. So we went to look at it. The trees were about 6 feet tall, and about 4 or 5 feet around. The fruit was there and it looked just like an apricot. But when we opened up the fruit there were about 5 or 6 seeds inside, unlike
an apricot that just has a pit. We smelled it and it smelled just like an apricot. So the next test was to taste it. Well, I didn't eat it and swallow it, but I just mashed a little and tasted it. It was sweet just like an apricot but then it left this really bitter taste in my mouth. Really dried up my mouth.
So what is this tree? Is it a 'wild apricot'? The fruit would hang there and directly about where it connected to the tree it had 4 little leaves on top. Very cute, very 'fall' looking fruit. But what I would really like to know is what this could be, and is it toxic :) - I hope not!
