I would like any information on which species
of ficus I need to achieve the lush, thick, green
hedge that I've seen used to provide a wall of
privacy. I also would like to know how hardy is
the plant and if it's roots are considered
invasive(if so...how much?) The idea is to have
about an 8 ft tall by maybe 1-1.5 ft thick hedge.
Any maintenance or soil and water requirements
would also be appreciated. I live in Southern
California and the area will be irrigated and
practically in full sun!

Thank You for any and all your help,

Sincerely,

Barry Benson

p.s. If you have any other shrub recommendations
I will certainly entertain them.

BARRY: Nice concise note with good particulars!
First of all it will be rather difficult to keep anything that will grow 8' tall only 1.5' wide. There is a Psuedo taxus that might work, also check into Ligustrum(wax privet). If I were you I would check with your local nurserymen to see what is available and if there are any newer varieties on the market that would fit your specs. When inquiring check into the maintenance requirements....pruning, insects primarily. MVG Plant Dr.
