Recentlly, Mangoes in some parts of Sultanate of Oman, are showing seriuos decline . The phenomena is charactarised by severe gum exudation from collar, main trunk, and branches, die back and eventully the trees die. The death in some cases is all of a sudden. The local variety is more succeptable to this phenomena. The diseased trees are very often infested by bark beetles and less frequently by stem boreres. High infestation by bark beetles result in gum exudating from those injuries. The fungus Botryodiplodia has been found in association with the injuries caused by bark beetles, colonizing roots and from branches showing dieback. Trees in the later stages show severe gumming and bark cracking. Gumming is more obvious where cracks are found. Insecticidal and fungicidal sprays are started. Severly infected trees continues to die.
