Gary,
I suspect you have a good population of earthworms. This will not be harmful to your lawn and the mounds will eventually melt into the ground. Diazinon will not kill the worms, which you don't want to do anyway!

: Help!!! I have mounds of dirt all over my lawn about the size of a quarter to half dollar. The dirt is like a crown and the dirt is stuck together resembling
the mud nests that hornets build. I had thought it was a mole on a mission but after clearing away the dirt the hole is only about the size of my pinkie finger.
There are hundreds of holes throughout the lawn and I have no idea what to do to combat this except for spreading diazinon which I would rather not do due to my pets use of the yard. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
