Do not split the bulb. That would just kill it. Sometimes little baby bulbs will form at the base. You can remove these for planting.

Propagating bulbs from seed or bulblets could take you seven years to produce a bulb big enough to flower for the first time.

: I am trying to figure out how I can propagate more bulbs out of a tulip bulb. I live in centeral California, temperatures get mildly cold at winter (40-20 degrees). Do I let the flowers seed, and then collect the seeds? How do I plant them? what temperatures do these seeds need to germinate?
OR do I split the bulb after it stops producing flowers? Any other suggestions?
