: : MY MOTHER AND FATHER HAVE A BLACK WALNUT TREE IN THEIR YARD, AND THEY HEARD IT WAS WORTH A LOT OF MONEY, AND WANT TO GET RID OF IT. WOULD THEY BE ABLE TO TRANSPLANT A HUGE FULL GROWN TREE? OR WOULD THEY BE FURTHER AHEAD TO CHOP IT DOWN AND SELL THE WOOD? AND APPROMIXALY HOW MUCH MONEY IS ALOT WHEN TALKING ABOUT SELLING IT?

TRACY: "Full grown" is a nebulous term. What is the diameter of the trunk at 12" above the ground? If it is 18 to 24" in diameter and the trunk of the tree is straight and unbranched for 15 to 20', then the tree probably has some timber value and is much too large to transplant.
If this is the case contact your local county agricultural extension agent for a source of a timber company that can provide an estimate as to the value of the tree for timber. MVG Plant Dr.

I would like to know how much a board foot of average black walnut is worth, and how much a board food of veneer quality black walnut is worth.
thanks,
zac
