I've read that when planting newly purchased Holly bushes/trees, they need to be severely pruned when transplating. What's severe? I have a Dragon Lady about 3 1/2' (from top of container to top of tree) and a Blue Stallion about 2' tall. How much to I prune off?
Thanks,
Fran

: just got some holly bushes, and I was wondering if they need any special care
Holly, did you buy them 'cause your name was Holly?Just kidding!Hollies are on of my favorites in the garden.Grow them in moist, but well drained, moderatley fertile, humus-rich soil in full sun to part shade.Planting or transplanting is best done in the spring. As far as pruning goes, prune free standing Hollies in the early years only.Clip formally grown plants in summer & hedges in spring.I prune my China Girl & boy in spring, & top dress them with composted peat & Holly fertilizer.Hope this helps...Dee
