: Hi. I am pretty much a novice when it comes to landscape plants, but I can tell you this much. A Bougainvillea seems to grow best in full sun, but a shadier location is better if you're in a real hot area (doubtful for Northern Virginia!). It only needs minimal water once its established and grows very well as a vine. I have one as a hanging basket and one growing on a trellis. I don't think that it would prosper well indoors, as it seems to like direct light.
: I recently purchased a 1 gallon size Bouganvilla in bloom. I live in Northern Virginia and know absolutely nothing about this plant. Indoor/Outdoor? Full Sun? Watering? Growth habits? tree? vining? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I can also add that the bouganvilla is a native of Mexico, so it deefinately likes hot, dry conditions. I have heard that it can be hard to encourage blooming, especially if they don't get enough direct light.
