Odds are probably not what you'd like, but take heart--pamper it and you never know! You might not be completely of luck! (I'm a sucker for 'Charlie Brown' plants/tress, having rescusitated quite a few lost causes. They just needs lots of TLC.) Prepare a good hole--put a generous amount of some really good quality potting soil in the planting hole so that the roots can settle and new growth can take hold easily. Evergreens like acidic soil, so use about 50% peat moss mixed in with the potting soil. (Don't use straight peat moss, it dries out badly.) I highly recommend a root stimulator once a week, it does wonders for 'Charlie Brown' plants and trees. Your evergreen has probably lost her feeder roots, so use the root stimulator for at least a couple months to stimulate new root growth (Fertilome and Schultz make a good product). After a couple months, switch to a liquid fertilizer for acid plants (Miracid, Schultz Acid Plus). You can use the trunk as a guide for depth, don't plant it deeper/shallower than it was before. Keep the roots evenly moist, making sure it gets the equivalent of 1" of water per week. Don't overwater and use some mulch. (pine bark would be good, it will help acidify the soil.) You'll probably have to pamper this one for a good full year, watering in winter, too. Probably a good idea to stake it too, on at least 3 sides. I do hope you're able to save your evergreen, good luck! -Kathy
