Hi Chuck-it's been my experience that it's pretty darned hard to kill ivy :-). (We tried to remove some last year that had consumed a large flower bed over the years, it took 8 weeks and several doses of total vegetation killer.) I'd suggest pruning the dead foliage (gradually-start and the ends, keep trimming back until you see green in the stem and stop there.) Feed your ivy with liquid fertilizer for a month or two. If you've still got green growth at the root area, your ivy will probably rebound with little trouble.
: My English ivy covered my entire trellis last summer and now after the winter most of the leafs are brown.
What happened? What should I do? If I cut back all the brown leaves and vines all I will hve is a small section of green ivy at the root. Will it come back? Chuck
