: Can anyone answer the simple question..? WHAT TIME OF THE YEAR IS BEST FOR PRUNING BRADFORD PEAR TREES?
Thank You.
Hi Tommy,
I own an organic lawncare company in northeast IN and get this question all the time. Deciduous trees (the ones that drop their leaves) are best pruned in the dormant season.
Because pruning stimulates growth, you would most certainly avoid pruning late in the growing season just before winter. The pest pressure is much lower in late winter also so your chances of a fungus or bacteria infecting the fresh wound are much lower.
Good Luck,
