Ficus roots

Ficus do have very invasive roots; roots that tend to grow close to and
above the surface of the soil. One thing you can do is install a root
barrier. Garden supply stores carry them in varying depths. They are a
thin, but strong, flexible plastic that is installed by digging a narrow
trench and slipping it down between the tree roots and in your case the
foundation of your house. This diverts the roots to go downward and not
horizontally under your house. Hope this helps.
