: Have about 50 apple trees (semi-dwarfed) 3 years old now. My dad thought he would prune them for us and he did just that. I dont know much but he cut them everywhere including in the middle of main branches and cutting the main trunk off at the top. Assuming the trees are all screwed up, can i fix them somehow?? If so, can i prune now?

Thanks
Joe

Joe, This is a good time to go to a pruning book in the library and take a look at some good examples of the proper way to prune. Then go back to your trees any mild day this winter and do a little more pruning WHERE IT IS NEEDED to form the basic structure you desire. Keep the center of the tree open for plenty of light to the center of the tree and good air flow. Keep the profile of the tree low so the fruit can be picked without an ladder as much as possible. Most of all have fun at this thing. Earl
