Meadow View makes Container Gardening easier and rewarding in a
number of ways:
• Varieties planted in MVG ‘Gardens’ are proven performers here in
the Miami Valley
• Planting “recipes” are provided for the DIY people
• Guidance from MVG professionals on “How to Grow and Maintain” your
‘Garden’
• Seasonal change information for your Container Garden.
MVG’s Contain Yourself location in the greenhouse features Container
Gardens ready to go. These ‘Gardens’ have been planted in early
spring and are advanced by several weeks ahead of plants that are
planted in May. This specialty area is fully functional from the end
of March through mid June. Our talented designers will assist you.
Barb is our resident expert and the “queen” of the Contain Yourself
area.
For those that decide to use a “recipe” and DIY, the component
plants used in creating your Container Garden are grouped into three
categories for ease of selection:
• Thrillers- centerpiece or focal plants
• Fillers- plants that compliment the Thriller
• Spillers- are the plants that cascade down around the edge of the
container
Some of the first questions that should be answered to be successful
with Container Gardening are:
•
How much sunlight is my Container Garden going to receive where it
will be growing?
• What kind of container do I want to feature?
• Glazed ceramic
• Attractive resin
• Economical plastic pots
• Design my own, use one of the available “recipes” or purchase one
of the ready-to-go Container
Gardens?
• Bring in a favorite container of mine and have it ‘custom
planted’?
• Many customers bring their planters back, year after year, in the
spring, for Retha and her
staff to plant again with their favorite color scheme.(We can email
you info about this service.)
• Should I consider changing my Container Garden with the seasons
using the Pot ‘N Pot
program?
VEGETABLE GARDENING IN CONTAINERS
Vegetables grow well in containers.
Grow your favorite tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, cucumbers and more
in large containers right on the patio. Here are a few good reasons
to grow you vegetables in containers:
• Poor soil conditions
• Prevent those wild critters from beating you to the harvest
• Limited sunny locations
